....as an extention of the other thread. Not including yourselves, what guitars are you dying to own? I cannot leave this world unless I am in posession of an original Torres. I've got about 60 years to come up with the money, and they'll likely go up in value twice what I can save each successive year. After 30 years or so I'll just steal one in a museum heist. I'd also like a Santos Hernandez and an Enrique Garcia. Living Makers I'd like a guitar from... Jose or Liam Romanillos, Tobias Braun, Gerhard Oldiges, Luca Waldner... |

Ya planning to take it with you? I think the most enlightening guitar I have ever played was a Froggy Bottom parlor. So light and responsive. |

Joshua, Good question. I want one of yours! - as you well know. So, maybe if I steal a Torres, I can just trade you straight up!  I would love a pre-war Martin, with Brazilian would be nice. Then throw in one of Nelson's archtops, and I would be set!

I've had a great interest in several-Eichelbaum and Charis come to mind. Eichelbaum sends out a cd sampler with his literature. A cut above the MPG files |

I would like to own a steelstring from Fabrizio Alberico. I think this guy is building some of the nicest guitars going. www.albericoguitar.com I wouldn't mind having a Laskin either. Josh |

I had the privlage of playing a James Olson a couple years ago,light responsive. The fretboard played smooth as glass. I don't realy want to own one. I want to build one on par with it

A Charmin...they're very rare, and delicate...since the box and the neck are constructed entirely of reclaimed toilet paper and LMI's white glue! Seriously, the Olson would be my pick but the more work I see from Forum members the more that changes!

The was this Running Dog (Rick Davis) that I played at Newport that was very tempting. Is was a wedge OM or SJ body. Actually, Rick wrote about it in Guitarmaker a few issues back if you want to see a picture. That guitar was already sold, of course. The thing that was most impressive to me was the feel of the instrument. The wedge body and the shape of the neck made it just melt into you and all you had to do was think about making a sound and that sound just leaped out of the guitar. The fit and finish was as good as any of the guitars there. It sounded like a big thick jumbo but felt like a parlor. I better go hide my wallet for a few hours until I calm down. |

OK, seriously... a Kim Walker guitar would be my #1 choice. Hands down the best guitars at the Newport show or that I have seen anywhere. Well, the Borges guitars were pretty special too. For that matter, Mike Doolin had a couple amazing guitars there. But still, hands down the Walkers. |

I've always wanted an Olson SJ, but since I have been building, I have found that pretty much anyone on this forum that has been building for awhile could come pretty close to an Olson. So I just need to play more high end guitars before deciding. If John Mayes would have had a guitar at his house when I visited him, I could have played one of his. Oh well, maybe next time. Tracy |

Ok, Joshua, I wouldn't mind owning one of yours. With the tornavoz. Built out of Spanish cypress w/ a Euro top. Or perhaps a Port Orford body w/ a Euro top. Bind it in Brazilian. Then I'd take flamenco lessons! Actually, like Tracy aluded to, there are a number of great builders on this forum. How great would it be to own a guitar from each maker???? |

What would be really cool is if one of the builders here made a great sounding guitar, then it was passed to all the builders to evaluate the guitar for sound. Everyone has their own sound that they like, it would be interesting to let everyone here play the guitar and give thier impressions of the sound. After being passed around like a flask at a Grateful Dead concert, we could compare everyones likes and dislikes on sound. That would be an interesting project! Tracy |
